The Functional Anatomy course is a foundational component of the STOTT PILATES® Comprehensive Program and fully prepares students for advanced certification training.
It can also be taken as:
• A refresher for experienced instructors
• A prerequisite for Intensive-level programs
• A standalone anatomy course for movement professionals
Through lecture, demonstration, and hands-on learning, you’ll build a clear understanding of how the body moves and how anatomy directly informs intelligent exercise selection and programming.

No prior anatomy experience is required.
What You Will Learn
This course teaches anatomy in a clear, functional, movement-based way, directly applicable to Pilates and exercise programming.
You will learn:
• Anatomical position and why it matters
• The axial and appendicular skeleton
• Bony landmarks and prominences
• Terms of direction and relationship and how they apply to movement
• Joint classifications and available movements
• Types of muscular contractions and force application
• Muscle origin, insertion, and action
• How functional anatomy applies to specific Pilates exercises and movements
Select exercises from the STOTT PILATES® repertoire are analyzed to help you connect anatomy to real teaching situations.
